Glean is a web- based application that allows students to capture audio and upload slides, diagrams, and text notes to include alongside each recording. Students are able to capture presentations without writing and can highlight key points for review. Glean can be accessed online, downloaded to your computer desktop, or via a mobile app.

Below are a few resources to help students explore Glean as an option for their notetaking support needs and serves as a hub for students needing help using Glean. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Arlyn Ramirez at agramirez@saonet.ucla.edu.

Signing Up For Glean

Students who desire to use Glean for their notetaking disability-related needs should first either register with CAE if they aren't yet registered or reach out to their CAE Disability Specialist if they are currently registered. Once Glean is approved as an eligible tool for the student, CAE will assign the student an account with Glean and send further information via email on getting started with Glean.

Students in the meantime can get started by exploring the resources on this page and register to attend a Glean Live Tutorial. Glean offers a variety of regularly scheduled tutorials via Zoom where students can get hands-on look at using all of the tools Glean offers and insider tips on how to make the most of those tools. Students can register below.

Getting Started with Glean

If you are just starting to use Glean in your classes or if you know you are interested, but aren't sure where to start in becoming proficient with using the tool, the below video gives you a preview of some of the first steps to take when using the tool. A couple of tips and suggestions that we are CAE first suggest to students include:

  • Try practicing taking notes with Glean while streaming your favorite TV shows or movie. It will help you practice using all of the features in a low stakes environment.
  • Focus on just using one tool within Glean at a time, so you don't get overwhelmed. You might just start with the audio recording one week and then move to uploading your slides the following week. Gradually move your way up to using most or all of the features available to you.
  • Ask CAE to connect with another student using Glean in their classes. We're happy to facilitate a connection with another student who is using the tool and is okay with connecting with others.
