New and Prospective Students
Students with disabilities that arrive at UCLA do so with the skills, inner resources, and ambition needed to be a great success. However, for some students with disabilities, negotiating university life and academic environments can be more challenging without the benefit of support. The Center for Accessible Education serves as a central resource on disability-related information for students, procedures and services for the University student community. The Center for Accessible Education provides expertise in determining and implementing appropriate and reasonable accommodations for academics and housing. UCLA students with disabilities are fundamental to the diverse foundation of the University, and we work to support you in accessing the educational experience at UCLA.
How to Register and Qualify for CAE Support
To access CAE services and accommodations, you’ll first register with our office. Here’s how the process works:
- Complete the CAE Application
Submit your online application, providing basic details about yourself and your accommodation needs.
- Submit Supporting Documentation
Provide documentation from a qualified professional detailing your disability and its impact on your academic experience.
- Schedule Your Initial Appointment
After we review your application and documentation, we’ll contact you to schedule an appointment with a Disability Specialist. This meeting helps us identify appropriate, personalized accommodations.
Academic Accommodations at UCLA
CAE provides individualized support to facilitate your academic success. Our team collaborates with you to arrange accommodations tailored specifically to your needs, such as test accommodations, assistive technologies, note-taking services, and more.
CAE Housing Accommodations
If you require housing accommodations, our Housing Accommodations Board will review your application to ensure your living situation supports your specific needs. Early application is encouraged to secure accommodations well before the academic year begins.
Documentation Guidelines
Students who request reasonable accommodations must submit current documentation (i.e., medical/educational/diagnostic reports) from licensed physicians, psychologists, or other qualified professionals, as well as supporting historical records and materials.
To ensure efficient processing of your accommodations request, review our documentation guidelines carefully. Proper documentation clearly outlines your disability, recommended accommodations, and how your condition affects your academic or housing experience.
